We're hiring: Human Resource Manager

Job Description

This position is overall responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing the HR structure to achieve the organization’s strategic objectives. This will entail supporting the managing trustees on people operation matters including but not limited to administration, policy development and implementation, employee relations, talent and performance development, compensation, benefits and recognition strategies and implementing solutions that improve the organizations processes from an HR perspective

Function & Responsibilities

Administration & Compliance Management

  • Formulate, implement and review the HR strategy, policies and procedures and ensure that they are communicated and implemented 
  • Update on Health and Safety measures and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure staff files are up to date on statutory requirements
  • Update on any regulatory changes and implement the same 
  • Onboarding new staff members, ensuring relevant equipment is provided, arranging for library tours and providing oversight on the  granting of access to relevant documents and  policies
  • Leave/Benefits management
  • Evaluate outgoing team members/ exit interviews
  • Liaise with  Finance on any payroll and update on any related changes

Recruitment & Selection

  • Coordinate manpower planning, recruitment, selection and induction of staff to ensure projects and operational entities are effectively resourced at all times
  • Drafting of job descriptions for new positions
  • Recruitment of interns and volunteers including initial screening of candidates, arranging for written assessments and acting as ex-officio during interviews
  • Conducting due diligence on partners, consultants ,staff
  • New staff data collection and filing 
  • Contract management

Budgeting and Strategy Development

  • Formulating the HR budget in partnership with Book Bunk Managing Trustees
  • Develop and maintain the remuneration strategy and appropriate terms and conditions of employment
  • Board Management reporting: attending at least two annual board meetings.
  • Integrate automated systems to manage staff information and support communication 
  • Develop a bonus structure
  • Conduct or commission dept specific research e.g salary surveys, benefit structure, succession plan
  • Advise on any staff matters including remuneration, recruitment and disciplinary measures

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Promote good employee relations and ensure effective communication.
  • Implement employee engagement forums
  • Run the quarterly Town Hall
  • Crisis/ Incident management
  • Overall charge of all employee relations 
  • Conduct seminars to  provide guidance to staff members on benefits, entitlements and policies

Performance & Employee Development

  • Implement performance management systems
  • Manage performance reviews in partnership with line managers
  • Conduct training needs analysis and develop training programmes 
  • In charge of training and compliance
  • Develop and maintain all necessary development and training policies and plans to ensure optimal performance.

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, 

OR

  • Social sciences or any business field with a Higher Diploma in HR
  • Professional HR Certification (Member of IHRM )

Desirable

  • 3 years work Experience in an HR Generalist or People Operations position

Additional Terms of Work

  • This is a full time position. 
  • Probation is 3 months. 
  • Working hours are: 9:00am – 5:00 pm on Monday to Friday. 
  • Indicative Salary: Kes 120,000
