Earlier this year, we launched Green Bunk; our response to climate change. Green Bunk’s long term goal is to build carbon neutral libraries by 2027! Since launching this programme, we’ve installed solar panels and solar water pumps at Eastlands Library thanks to our new friends, Davis & Shirtliff. We’ve also partnered with TakaTaka Solutions, who have generously installed a waste collection point for Kaloleni library and the library community. We are also running community training programmes for kids and teens and inspire them towards being eco-warriors. You can read more about Green Bunk here: https://www.bookbunk.org/green-bunk/

If you are interested in helping us achieve our goal of building carbon neutral libraries, message us and we’ll be sure to respond. Stay tuned for more Green Bunk updates 🙂

Come through this Saturday for #HepaJam film screenings with Docubox - The East African Documentary Film Fund!

We’re screening “Skulls of My People” by South African film director, Vincent Moloi, at Eastlands and Kaloleni Libraries from 12pm. This documentary follows the struggle of one of the smallest tribe in Namibia as they fight to return the skulls of their people taken by the Germans for racial science profiling after the genocide of 1904.

Bunkers,

Hepa Jam is still on with more film screenings at the library courtesy of Docubox - The East African Documentary Film Fund!

This Saturday, 30th July, we’ll be hosting simultaneous screenings at Eastlands Library and Kaloleni Library from 12pm for the film, “If Objects Could Speak”. Two filmmakers, Elena Schilling and Saitabao Kaiyare , take a Kenyan artifact from a German museum, produce a 3D scan and embark on a journey back to its roots. This film takes you on a journey to find answers about this old object from the Kikuyu tribe. With a digital art installation in their package, Elena and Saitabao started a new conversation about the issue of colonial belongings, identity, fear and anger in Kenya. Join us on Sato to learn more!
