Happy Friday Bunkers!

We are digging into the archive and finding some troublesome info from Nairobi City County Minutes during its colonial era. Take a look at this record from 1937, Native Africans who were referred to as “undesirable natives,” had taken up residence in Kibera as “a result of the removal of Pangani”. City officials noted that most had resorted to drinking on Ngong Road i.e. Kibera. Could it have anything to do with trauma from possible forced relocation? Come join us and unearth this and much more at an exhibition curated by The Nest Collective from Saturday 21st May.

We have been digitising Nairobi County minutes between 1930s - 1950s found within the McMillan Memorial Library. This archives highlight the city’s socialisation during the colonial period. This work is supported by Acardia Fund and British Library.

Bunkers,

On May 21st, we are inviting members of the public to come down to Eastlands library and immerse themselves in our world of digitisation. We will host our third panel session co-curated with Baraza Media Lab as we discuss decolonising the arts and culture space. Docubox - The East African Documentary Film Fund will screen five films tied to the archive and digitisation, you don't want to miss that! Our friends, The Nest Collective have also curated an exhibition inspired by #NRBLibraries archive! Lastly, dance to Benga music with a Ketebul Music performance and travel through our country's history of music.

Save the date: 21st May 2021
Register here: https://bit.ly/3rZVw0h

P.S: Digitisation stations and audio storytelling booths are currently available at the library. Come digitise your archive at the library!

Bunkers!

What a joy to see many of you at the Missing Bits gig at McMillan last Saturday. We are inspired to keep digitising and adding towards Kenya’s public and cultural memory. Take a trip down memory lane and experience the weekend that was in pictures. Have feedback for us? Send us your feedback here: https://bit.ly/TMB-April-Feedback

Our next event will be on Saturday, 21st May 2022 at Eastlands
Library.

Mark your calendars.
