2021 is the 90th anniversary of Nairobi’s McMillan Memorial Library. In tying the Trust’s work restoring public libraries with Nairobi’s pop culture, this literary festival will focus on prominent narratives and ideas about Nairobi in the past 90 years. The NBO Litfest further aims to provide a platform for established and emerging writers for conversations; the story of what our cityscapes once were and are becoming are worth invoking if only for a debate on what some of the ‘founding’ narratives were and what that means for the present and within our immediate context, in the reimagining of spaces with contested histories such as the McMillan Memorial Library.
